Jennie and I initially met a couple years ago at a party in Philadelphia hosted by The East Coast Creative Collective. At that time in my life, I had been just beginning to push myself out of my comfort zone, and meet and create with new people. Portraiture was still something I had only just begun dabbling in. Despite my initial feeling of being out of place in the city I had only visited once before, most everybody present at the event was very welcoming. I had the pleasure of meeting some very talented folks that day, including Jennie of course. I am so grateful to have reconnected with her years later to create these sets.
We made plans to meet at these lovely ruins in New York, and were greeted by a pretty overcast day. There was potential for rain, but we managed the mile hike with clear weather through our shoot at the ruins. It is always such a pleasure to dress up and take turns photographing and modeling alongside friends. After we were satisfied with our time there, we made the trek back down the mountain.
As it turned out, Jennie was quite familiar with the area we were in, and suggested we visit the overlook not far from where we were parked. It had begun to rain a bit, but luckily I had prepared for the precipitation and brought along my (weather-resistant) digital camera as backup. After a much shorter trek, I was blown away by the view of the Hudson River. We watched a freight train come around the bend, and made a valiant effort in counting the cars (I most certainly lost count after the early 100’s). Feeling inspired, we took out our gear and gowns and took advantage of the fog that had accumulated.
Jennie is such a real and raw person, and a pleasure to be around. I am grateful to have even met her, and also for the time we spent creating together. I hope to get together again in the near future.
